This round with extra budget, made possible by a bequest

With the Theatre text work grant, theatre writers are given space to create new work for the stage and to deepen their development as makers. In collaboration with the Dutch Foundation for Literature, we are committed to a theatre repertoire that moves with the times: strong in content, diverse, and open to new perspectives.

Fonds Podiumkunsten works from the belief that good theatre emerges where craftsmanship, artistic freedom and curiosity come together. By supporting makers at different stages of their careers, the subsidy scheme contributes to an accessible and vibrant performing arts field, in which new texts can find their way to an audience.
The bequest of Mr Wytze Visser
The donation comes from Mr Wytze Visser. Wytze Visser (1948–2024) had a lifelong connection with theatre, but did not consider himself good enough as a performer to become a professional actor. To stay involved in the theatre world, he chose to study speech therapy so he could support actors. In 1978 he became a teacher at the Theatre School/Kleinkunstacademie, where he guided generations of actors; a large part of today’s actors passed through his classes. Visser attached great importance to the continuity of theatre as a mirror of society. Together with his family, we chose a destination for his gift that matches his vision and offers space for development in the field.
