Professionals' programme playwriting festival Shakespeare is Dead

22 February 2022 until 26 February 2022
Festival Shakespeare is Dead hosts a professionals' programme for international presenters in collaboration with the Performing Arts Fund NL, Flanders Literature, Flanders Arts Institute, and theater company Het nieuwstedelijk. During a three-day professionals' programme in Leuven (Belgium), international presenters are introduced to a new generation of Dutch-speaking playwrights. The international festival for contemporary playwriting presents a selection of 11 new texts from Dutch and Belgian authors, and 10 new international texts.
Shakespeare Is Dead is an international festival with some of the most interesting voices in Dutch and Belgian theatre. The authors and companies whose work will be presented are Vera Morina (NL), Eric De Vroedt (NL), Frank Siera (NL), BOG. (NL), Michael Bijnens (BE), Anna Carlier (NL), Dounia Mahammed (BE), De HOE (BE), Stijn Devillé (BE), Nico Boon (BE), and Freek Mariën (BE). Eleven new plays will be presented in staged readings.

Presenters and authors will connect during networking lunches and walk-the-talk sessions: get to know them better in an informal setting and strengthen the international bonds. The walk-the-talk sessions are there for more one-on-one conversations with a playwright you find particularly interesting and to talk in-depth with them about their work.

The festival also presents work by international authors, whose texts are translated into Dutch, but will also be presented in their original language during living room readings at the homes of the Leuven international community.
